Clean solar panels: buy, rent or hire a professional?

Published · Solar Equipement

The lowest purchase price is not the only consideration. Think about safe access, working area, storage and how often the equipment will be used.

These are the options Solar Equipement offers. On-site cleaning and rental are available in French-speaking Switzerland and neighbouring regions.

Questions to ask before deciding

  • How large and high is the panel area?
  • Can I work from the ground, or would I have to access the roof?
  • How often will I clean?
  • Do I have the time and the space to maintain and store equipment?

If access is difficult or unsafe, safety takes priority: hire a suitably equipped professional.

Buying equipment

The PBT telescopic brush costs from CHF 299; the motorised double-disc brush costs from CHF 1,390; and the robot costs CHF 9,979. Buying may make sense for repeated use when you can work safely. Check maintenance and spare-part needs too.

Renting the robot

Rental can suit an occasional large job without buying the robot. Rental: 1 day CHF 390, weekend (2 days) CHF 690 or week (5 days) CHF 1,290. The CHF 1,000 deposit is refunded when the robot is returned in good condition. Training before the first rental is mandatory and costs CHF 219 once per operator. Final prices in CHF, not subject to VAT. Transport and terms on request.

Hiring a cleaning service

If your roof is high, steep, hard to reach or unsuitable for DIY cleaning, ask for an on-site assessment. We clean using our own equipment where access is safe. Prices depend on the panel area, condition and accessibility.

A word on safety

Whatever you choose, roof work carries a real risk of falling. If you cannot work from the ground or with suitable fall protection, leave the job to a professional.

Key points at a glance

Buying is a practical choice for repeated use on an accessible installation. Rental suits large surfaces cleaned occasionally. Hiring a professional is simpler and safer where the roof is difficult to reach.

If you are unsure, describe your installation. We reply within 24 hours with a clear recommendation.

Which option suits you?

  • An accessible smaller roof: consider the telescopic brush if you can work safely from the ground.
  • Repeated larger jobs: compare the motorised brush with the effort and access involved.
  • An occasional extensive job: ask about robot rental and mandatory training.
  • Unsafe or uncertain access: ask a suitably equipped professional for a site-specific quote.
